Welcome Troop lEaders and volunteers of Service unit 8

Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington serves more than 14,000 girl members. We are Service Unit 8, part of Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington, serving more than 900 Girl Scouts and their families in the North Beaverton area. We are by far the largest service unit in our council. Despite that, our service unit is entirely volunteer run. Whether it’s a Girl Scout event like BooBall or managing the 150,000 boxes of cookies we sell each year, volunteers like you are the ones making it happen.

Asking anyone to manage 900+ girls and 600+ adult volunteers is a lot. To decrease the work into manageable chunks, we have divided our service unit into three smaller areas called branches. Focused around the area’s middle schools, the branch system allows service unit volunteers to focus their energy on approximately 300 girls and 150 volunteers. The service unit was portioned to create approximately even numbers of enrolled girls… this means some branches cover a greater geographical area than others.

With this branch system, we should see greater support for troop leaders, more girl events, and a greater Girl Scout presence in our community. Troops will be assigned to a branch based on either the leaders’ Girl Scouts’ school (if both leaders girls attend the same school) or the school with the most members within the troop.. If you feel your troop has been assigned to an incorrect branch, please contact membership.su8.girlscouts@gmail.com.
