SU8 annual food drive
Calling all Food Drive Participants!!
We have the opportunity to partner with St Vincent de Paul again this year and spearhead their Holiday Food Drive in November. This is such a wonderful opportunity for our girls to have first hand experiences helping families in our community.
Food Drive Date: Saturday, November 16th
Drop Off Center Location: St Pius X Catholic Church, lower parking lot (drop-off center open from 9-1pm) Address 1280 NW Saltzman Rd, Portland, OR 97229. (St Juan Diego is NOT a drop-off center this year)
Drop Off Center Hours: 9-1pm. If you are unable to make the 1pm deadline but still have food to drop off, please call 503-720-7432 and St Vincent de Paul will work with you on timing.
Neighborhood Signup: you can once again use this interactive map to allocate neighborhoods for your troop. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZWw4QHxSiteNagZMvlY0A509A117x7kb&usp=sharing This year, please ensure you have the number of girls participating on your map signup. This is the number we will use to purchase Food Drive Fun Patches.
Food Drive Bags: St. Vincent de Paul will attend our leadership meeting on 10/10 and will have bags available for your troop to pick up. Please have an idea of the number of girls participating so you get the appropriate number of bags.
Flier: Attached. Each troop is responsible for printing these fliers out and attaching to the food drive bags.
WHAT TO DO:
NOW: Decide what neighborhood you want to drop off bags and give flyers too. Decide how many girls will be participating. Sign up for neighborhood online starting now.
Oct 10th : Troops will pick up their food drive bags at the October SU Leader Meeting (10/10). You will pick up enough for your entire troop to canvas their area. Additionally, each troop will print out and attach the Girl Scout Food Drive flier to each food drive bag. This gives each house the details of the food drive.
Week of Nov 10th : Leave bags and flyer at houses around your selected and registered neighborhood.
Nov 16th : Saturday morning, each troop will retrieve bags from doorsteps and deliver to the Donation Center. At the donation center, each troop will sort their bags of food (with help of St Vincent de Paul volunteers) and sign a Christmas card to add to food boxes before finishing for the day.
December or January: We will have fun Food Drive patches to distribute at the Service unit meeting for your troops.
Daisy troops and leaders are invited to come enjoy a day at our local Girl Scout property on April 18, 2020. Spend the day learning outdoor skills while connecting with other Girl Scout troops. Older Girl Scouts will serve as Program Aides to your troop, leading a nature walk, making SWAPS, playing games, teaching songs and more. Pack a lunch to eat on the meadow. Bring SWAPS to exchange with the other Girl Scouts.

Junior lock-in 2020
Junior Lock-in will take place April 18 at 3:00pm to April 19 at 11:00am, 2020. Just for Juniors, this event at Camp Mountaindale is a beloved SU8 tradition. Planned by and for Junior Girl Scouts, you’ll arrive in the evening, have dinner together, and enjoy an overnight experience. Times are approximate and subject to change.

Brownie Play day 2020
Brownie Play Day is scheduled for May 2, 2020, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Brownies are invited to come enjoy a day at our local Girl Scout property: Camp Mountaindale! Older Girl Scouts will serve as Program Aids to your troop, leading them through badgework, playing games, hiking, and other amazing activities. Pack a lunch to eat on the meadow. Bring SWAPS to exchange with the other Girl Scouts.

World thinking day 2020
Let’s bring back World Thinking Day events in 2020! Typically, each troop attending will bring a display highlighting the country of their choice, a snack to share with the group, and a craft or activity (SWAPS are popular).
